Friends with Voices at London Luton Airport

The month of May brought us Dementia Awareness Week 2017... and for this, Friends with Voices joined forces again to raise awareness to dementia and promote all the wonderful things that are happening in Luton.

A video, produced by London Luton Airport, accumulated a whopping 16k+ views! Here's the video of a little sing-a-long we had whilst there:

Luton Carnival 2017

Luton Carnival 2017

Music24 where invited to join Luton Wellbeing partnerships in the Health & Well-being Zone held this year at the Luton International Carnival!

The day brought lots of smiles and sunshine, including a community stage where Teela and some of our service users performed a few numbers including Sweet Caroline, Hey Baby! and The Wonder of You. We held a number of workshops throughout the day including a children's sing-a-long and drum circles.

Here are some pictures from the day:-

Music24 Guitar Club

Music24 Guitar Club

Some will be pleased to hear that we are starting a new Guitar Club here at our home in the Hat Factory. This comes after many discussions about how much it is to have private guitar tuition these days. Therefore, we have decided to trial a new group, based in SNAP, 1st Floor at The Hat Factory, on the first and third Thursday evening of the month between 7.00-8.30pm. Beginners are welcomed at an earlier time of 6.00pm.

The idea is that in this group we can learn from one another and pass on our skills and techniques, be creative and improvise/jam with each other. This group is intended for all guitarists at all levels and beginners are particularly welcome (note earlier start time).

Where: SNAP, 1st Floor, The Hat Factory Arts Centre, Luton, LU1 2EY

When: 1st & 3rd Thursday of each month

Time: Beginners 6.00pm onwards | Main Group 7.00-8.30pm

Price: £5 per person, per session

Leighton Buzzard Neuro-choir Update

Leighton Buzzard Neuro-choir Update

Music24 is very pleased to announce that we have received funding from the Whitbread Plc. Chairman's Fund, managed by Bedfordshire & Luton Community Foundation, to start a new choir in Leighton buzzard for people with communication difficulties! This choir will provide much needed support to those living with MS, Parkinson'd disease and recovering from a Stroke. There will be a music therapist, community musician and various volunteers to help deliver session that will run on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of each month. The choir is yet to find it's name and will be chosen by the group when it's formed.

PLEASE NOTE: Access to this group is by referral only. Please see details below.

WE ARE THREE!!

WE ARE THREE!!

Preparations for Music24’s Birthday Party/Fundraising event on Saturday 22nd April are well underway!  It’s officially our 3rd Birthday on the 15th April, but due to the Easter holiday we have decided to have the party on the 22ndApril at the L&D Hospital Social Club.

The bands are booked, including: StarSeedz, Supersonic, Bates and Wells and if we are lucky Teela, Graeme and the team will give us a tune or two as well!! ;)   We have raffle tickets on sale for £2 each and we have received some absolutely marvellous prizes!  We received a Samsung tablet, £100 Jamie’s Italian gift voucher, Woburn Safari Park family ticket and many many more… It’s unfortunate to say I am also being sold off to do guitar Lessons as a raffle prize!

We will also be auctioning, via Ebay, a signed and authenticated Amir Khan boxing glove, we’re wishing him all the best for his fight on 23rd April and hoping this will create a bit of interest in the sale.

Ticket sales have started, these can be bought in advance by contacting the Music24 team or through our Facebook Event Page; the prices are £5 for concessions or £8 standard price. Tickets can also be bought in our online shop or on the door but we recommend buying them in advance to prevent any disappointment.

All that’s left to do now is to buy and prepare the food, but we’ll tackle that next week! Hope you all have a lovely Easter break and look forward to seeing you on the 22nd April for the PARTY!!!

Take care,

Ashley Knight, Music24

We are therefore looking for trustees to work with us and help to deliver a variety of programs aimed at benefiting those who are most vulnerable and socially isolated in our community.

Ideally we are looking for somebody with a proven financial background and a passion to help people living with Mental Health Conditions, Dementia and Learning disabilities.

If you are interested then please contact Teela Hughes by emailing teela@music24.org.uk or calling 07521 248091.
